Benefits of Drumming

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF GROUP DRUMMING?

There are many benefits of group drumming and rhythm events. Drumming boosts the immune system so there is actual science that backs up the feeling of happiness and well-being that most people experience after drumming. It’s an easy instrument to learn and can be taught in a matter of minutes, unlike other instruments. I use primarily djembe drums from West Africa and they are easy to handle and most people can play them with just a little instruction.

Wee School DrummingParticipants in group drumming often feel relaxed, yet energized, connected to the others in the group, and notice a reduction in stress and anxiety after drumming. I have used drums as a means of communication in the circle as well as a way to celebrate and build a great group sound. Cooperation is essential to create a successful drumming experience, so drumming is a great team-building activity. I also encourage individuals in the group to take the lead in many ways, so a sense of pride and confidence is often cultivated within the circle.
